U.S. Demands Social Media History From Visa Applicants

U.S. mandates five-year social media history for Nigerian visa applicant.

The United States government has announced that all Nigerian visa applicants must now provide details of their social media activity covering the last five years.

According to a post by the U.S. Mission in Nigeria on X, applicants are required to list all usernames or handles they have used across every social media platform during that period when completing the DS-160 visa application form.

CBI News reports that the Embassy noted that applicants must also certify the accuracy of the information before signing and submitting the form, warning that failure to disclose could lead to serious consequences.

The Mission stated: “Visa applicants are required to list all social media usernames or handles of every platform they have used from the last 5 years on the DS-160 visa application form. Applicants certify that the information in their visa application is true and correct before they sign and submit. Omitting social media information could lead to visa denial and ineligibility for future visas.”
