Mother Janice Turner sentenced over role in fraud.
American-Jamaican singer Sean Kingston has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison in Florida for orchestrating a $1 million wire fraud scheme that also involved his mother.
CBI News reports that Kingston, 35, was convicted in March of using falsified wire receipts to obtain luxury cars, watches and other items, including a bulletproof Cadillac Escalade and an Audemars Piguet watch.
His mother, Janice Turner, received a five-year sentence with probation in July after admitting she falsified wire transfers to cover her son’s purchases.
She previously served time for a 2006 bank fraud conviction.
The pair were arrested in May 2024 following a SWAT raid on their South Florida home.
CBI News reports that prosecutors said Kingston enticed luxury sellers via social media with promises of promotion, then sent fake proof of payment.
Court filings showed Kingston once instructed Turner by text to “make [a] fake receipt.”
Before sentencing, the singer apologized and asked for home confinement, a request the judge denied.
Both Kingston and Turner also face multiple civil lawsuits from sellers alleging unpaid debts.
